altitude airways

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Despite the popularity of third party travel apps, it is still very important that airlines have their app for travelers to book flights. When travelers book flights on an app, simple visuals and easy-to-navigate user flows can make the expensive purchase much more viable. The Altitude Airways app simplifies the flight booking process for a fictitious airline. The Altitude Airways app aims to streamline the booking process while housing other features that benefit travelers.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Travelling and trip booking in general can be very stressful. By booking flights through third-party apps, users can easily become overstimulated. The designs within these services can be too complex for the average user. Searching for the greatest flight deal is exciting for some travelers, however, this process can become near impossible for people unfamiliar with app navigation. Pop-up ads, un closeable adverts, and labyrinth-like navigation can easily damper the excitement of trip booking.

Through primary research conducted amongst frequent flight bookers, I found many common issues with the online flight booking experience. The qualitative data from this research was then used to ideate designs that simplify the flight booking process. Eventually these designs would be brought to life through a functioning hi-fi prototype made in Figma.

PROBLEM

SOLUTION

Airline apps with a simple user flow can mitigate the frustrations of online flight booking. Altitude Airways utilizes a simple sequence for booking flights. This simplicity can be found in the large buttons, easy-to-understand iconography, and seamless transitions. The ability to go back during the booking experience gives the user comfort in knowing where they are within the booking process. Flights can be expensive for the average person, and putting the userā€™s needs first in app design can result in a mutual trust between a user and the app their using.

PROCESS

  • Conducted research through frequent travelers, and developed an understanding of the frustration travelers experience while booking flights. This research also discovered which app features users would avoid.

  • This qualitative data was then used to develop personas of users that would use the Altitude Airways app.

  • Using the personas I created, I began brainstorming designs that could make the booking process as simple and visually appealing as possible.

  • The designs ideated were eventually brought to Figma in a functioning hi-fi prototype. This prototype had an emphasis on particular user flows and the transitions throughout said flows.

What i learned

The Altitude Airways app was created to develop my user flow skills as a UX designer. As a frequent traveler, it was interesting to analyze a user flow I have experienced and build upon it within an app prototype. Altitude Airways was a creative way to develop my skills as a UX designer and also to learn how strong user flows can positively impact the digital experience. Iā€™m very passionate about design theory and creating visually appealing media. Projects like Altitude Airways reiterate how important the whole UX process can be in creating app prototypes.
