Chicago Bears App Redesign
PROJECT OVERVIEW
In today’s digital age, sports fans predominantly rely on social media to stay updated on their favorite teams. However, the apps of professional sports teams are often underutilized for various reasons. For the Chicago Bears, their current app fails to deliver a visually appealing user experience. The goal of this project was to redesign the Chicago Bears app with a focus on creating a visually engaging interface that addresses the needs and preferences of users.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Casual sports fans typically use sports news apps, as they don’t require detailed updates for every team. Meanwhile, more passionate fans who want a deeper connection with their favorite team often turn to platforms like Reddit or X for in-depth content. The Chicago Bears, like other teams, could greatly benefit from encouraging their fans to use their official app as a dedicated space to share their passion and team spirit.
Through primary research, I identified several outdated and bland elements within the existing Chicago Bears app. After analyzing the current design, I developed visually engaging elements that simplify the user experience. These new elements, which include an updated color palette, modern typography, and refreshed iconography, would then be implemented into a high-fidelity prototype on Figma.
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
To enhance the user experience, the Chicago Bears app was redesigned to encourage fans to choose it over traditional sports apps. The previous design featured elements that visually clashed and lacked a cohesive color scheme. By adopting the Chicago Bears' official color palette, the redesign reinforces the pride of the franchise. Additionally, the modernization of fonts and icons creates a cleaner, more unified interface. These updates combine to deliver an efficient, visually appealing user experience that strengthens the connection with Chicago Bears fan culture.
PROCESS
-
Conducted independent research by studying and navigating the Chicago Bears app. This research presented to me which app features I would prioritize. As well as which design elements I wanted to adjust.
-
This research found that many of the elements within the existing app were outdated and in need of a visual rebranding.
-
Using the research conducted, I then began developing app designs that simplify the user experience. Additionally, I began experimenting with many color palettes and icon styles.
-
The designs ideated were eventually brought to Figma in a functioning hi-fi prototype. This prototype emphasizes unified design elements and simplifies the user experience.
What i learned
The redesign of the Chicago Bears App was a project that developed my visual design skills as a UX designer. As an avid Chicago Bears Fan, it was interesting to take an existing app I have used and visually rebuild it. This redesign was a creative way to learn how important engaging design elements can be to the user experience. I’m very passionate about design theory and creating visually appealing media. Being able to apply this passion to a platform I would use was an extremely fun exercise.
